Brandcomfest 2026: PiggyVest’s Chibueze Says Customer Relationships Drive Brand Differentiation

Mr Joshua Chibueze, Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of PiggyVest, has said that strong customer relationships, transparency and continuous innovation are key to differentiating a brand in a saturated market, stressing that businesses must focus on exceeding customer expectations rather than competing solely on products.

Chibueze shared these insights during a Fireside Chat titled “Differentiation in the Midst of Saturation: An Exposé by a Doer,” at Brandcom Fest 2026, held at the Landmark Event Centre.

Speaking with Joshua Ajayi, Convener of Brandcom Fest, who moderated the session, Chibueze explained how PiggyVest has maintained its position in Nigeria’s competitive fintech market by building strong customer relationships, remaining transparent and developing products that respond to changing consumer needs.

He noted that savings existed long before PiggyVest entered the market, with Nigerians already using banks, informal savings schemes and physical savings boxes. However, many people still struggled to save consistently because their money remained easily accessible.

According to him, PiggyVest addressed this challenge by digitising the familiar concept of saving money in a box and accessing it after a specified period. The company introduced automated savings and withdrawal restrictions to encourage financial discipline among users.

On maintaining brand consistency amid increasing competition, Chibueze said that while competitors could copy a product, replicating the relationship a brand builds with its customers was considerably more difficult.

He attributed PiggyVest’s differentiation to its emphasis on transparency, communication and customer service, noting that the experience surrounding a product was as important as the product itself.

“My competition is not the next product. My competition is my customer,” he said, explaining that his priority was to continually deliver value and exceed customer expectations rather than focus solely on competing platforms.

He further highlighted the role of consumer insights in product development, citing Safelock, Flex Wallet and Fire Manager as examples of solutions shaped by customers’ saving habits and financial challenges.

According to Chibueze, Safelock emerged from customers’ desire to lock away money for a specified period, while Flex Wallet addressed the need for accessible funds, including emergency savings. Fire Manager, he added, was developed in response to observed spending and withdrawal patterns among users who struggled to manage their salaries throughout the month.

He explained that understanding these behaviours helps the company develop solutions that address customers’ financial challenges rather than simply encouraging them to save more.

Addressing the need for brands to remain relevant in a saturated market, Chibueze stressed that businesses must recognise that customer needs evolve and adapt their offerings accordingly.

He pointed to PiggyVest’s Kids and Joint features as examples, explaining that customers who began saving with the platform years ago have since entered new stages of life, including marriage and parenthood, creating different financial needs.

He said the introduction of these features reflects the company’s commitment to building products around its customers’ changing circumstances.

Chibueze’s message reinforced a central consideration of Brandcom Fest 2026, themed “Brand Building, Consumer Connection and Disruptive Realities”: sustainable brand differentiation requires more than a product competitors cannot easily replicate. It demands a genuine understanding of customers, meaningful relationships and the ability to continually deliver value as consumer needs change.
