As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to transform business models, decision-making and risk management, the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) will convene board directors, chief executives, regulators, technology experts and other business leaders at its 2026 Annual Corporate Governance Conference on 8 October 2026 in Victoria Island, Lagos, with virtual participation available.
Themed “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Power & Accountability: The New Architecture of Corporate Governance,” the conference will examine how the growing integration of AI into business strategy, operations and decision-making is reshaping the role and responsibilities of boards.
The discussions will focus on the implications of AI for board oversight, accountability, emerging risks, responsible innovation and long-term value creation. Participants will also explore how boards and senior leaders can navigate an increasingly technology-driven business environment while ensuring that effective governance remains at the centre of organisational decision-making.
Delivering the keynote address will be Dr. Evans Woherem, Founder/Chairman, Digital Africa Global Consult Ltd. The conference will also feature insights from Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary/CEO, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN); Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, Director-General, National Pension Commission (PenCom); and Mr. Alwin Magimay, Global Head of AI, PA Consulting, UK.
The panel session, moderated by Mrs. Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho, Managing Director/CEO, Future Software Resources Ltd., will bring together Dr. Karl Olutokun Toriola, CEO, MTN Nigeria and Vice President, Francophone Africa, MTN Group; Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, Founder/CEO, ISTAR Capital Nigeria Limited; Mr. Christopher Ogirri, Associate Director, AI & Data Engineering Lead and Chief AI Officer, PwC Nigeria; and Ms. Amaka Ibeji, AI Governance Expert and Founder, PALS Hub.
The panel will examine key questions around AI governance, board oversight, regulatory expectations, responsible innovation, organisational resilience, technology-enabled decision-making and accountability, drawing perspectives from technology, financial services, telecommunications, professional services and digital trust.
The conference programme will feature a keynote address, regulatory perspective, fireside chat, panel discussion and expert insights, providing participants with an opportunity to engage with the governance implications of AI from multiple sectoral and professional perspectives.
Ahead of the main conference, SCGN will host a Legal Pre-Conference on 6 October 2026, themed “Directors in the Age of Algorithms: AI Governance, Legal Accountability and the Board’s Duty of Care.”
Organised in partnership with KENNA and Banwo & Ighodalo, the pre-conference will examine the legal and governance responsibilities of directors as organisations increasingly adopt AI technologies. It will provide a focused discussion on directors’ duties, legal accountability, AI-related risks and the implications of algorithmic decision-making for corporate governance.
Together, the Legal Pre-Conference and Annual Corporate Governance Conference will provide a connected conversation, beginning with the legal responsibilities of directors and extending to the strategic role of boards as AI reshapes business decisions, markets and corporate power.
