Elev8 Media Advertising Limited, the company behind many landmark Lagos billboards, is now advertising inside Lagos Life, the browser game that has drawn millions of young Nigerians since it was launched.

The firm said its brand now appears on in-game advertising spaces, putting it in front of the game’s large audience. It announced the move in a statement shared on social media.

Elev8 Media which is behind popular billboards such as King of Marina at CMS and The Majesty at TBS in Lagos, recently relaunched King of Marina with a new LED screen and launched elev8mediabookings.com, an online platform where advertisers can view and book its billboards, according to the media company.

In the statement, the company said: “The Lagos Life team took the everyday experience of our city and turned it into something people cannot stop playing. Ideas like that deserve support, and we wanted Elev8 to be part of the story from the start.”

In Lagos Life, players live a virtual version of life in the city. They work, earn money, furnish homes, move around Lagos and meet other players. The game runs in a web browser, so nothing needs to be downloaded, and it is free to access, though it also offers paid features.

Elev8 said the game recorded more than 27.9 million visits on 9 October, with over 100,000 players online at the same time. This visit figure comes only from Elev8. Other reports have also put the game’s peak at more than 100,000 players online at once and its total player count at over two million within the first week.

Lagos Life was created by Nigerian developer Shalom Mathew, who has said she built the first version in under 12 hours. Reports say businesses can buy billboards and other ad placements inside the game, and that musicians have also used it to promote new releases.
