Elvis Ogiemwanye Joins Opay As VP, Marketing

Marketing communications professional, Elvis Ogiemwanye has joined the services of Opay Nigeria-a mobile-based platform for payment, transportation, food delivery, and other important services, as the Vice-President of Marketing.

In his new position, Ogiemwanye who has over two decades’ multi-functional experience in core marketing, telecoms marketing, high level strategic marketing, marketing communications, sponsorship, brand management, corporate strategy and media, will be responsible for overseeing and directing the Marketing department of the Opay brand, among other responsibilities.

He began his career in May 2000 as a Management Trainee at Insight Communications (now Insight Publicis). He left shortly afterwards to join Prima Garnet as Client Service Manager, where he was for three years.

After Prima Garnet, he switched over to the Client divide of the industry, pitching tent with MTN Nigeria as an Advertising Development Manager in 2004. While at MTN, he was pivotal to the launching and management of many high-profile projects and activations including Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Project Fame, Moving You Ahead theme campaign, Life is Beautiful campaign series, Go campaign, Everywhere You Go campaign, among others. He was also directly involved in the management of MTN Xtra cool along its key Value Proposition pillars (Price, Product and Services, lifestyle and Rewards and recognition).

By 2008, he moved on to join Etisalat Nigeria (now 9Mobile Nigeria) where he occupied the tasking Head of Youth Segment position. He was instrumental to the brand’s growth in the Youth Segment, successfully launching the Etisalat Youth brand (Easy Cliq) into the Nigerian Market and growing it from 0 – 6 million subscribers in just three years and also responsible for the achievement of the business objectives for over 40% of Etisalat business.

When the brand underwent a ‘metamorphosis’ to become 9Mobile, Ogiewanye was elevated to the position of Director, Brand and Experience to provide leadership support and direct the articulation and implementation of EMTS Brand and Experience strategy towards the achievement of a strong brand and the achievement of brand equity. The position also entailed that he defined, designed, managed and coordinated the strategic marketing and the brand strategy for the business and ensured that the corporate image follows the standards defined by the company.

He has several professional certifications from leading institutions such as Columbia Business School, Columbia University, Cranfield University, Nigeria Institute of Marketing and Chartered Institute of Marketing London, and his goal is to help brands have more visibility than ever into national and international markets.

An alumnus of Delta State University and Kaduna Polytechnic, Ogiewanye possesses several professional certifications from leading institutions such as Columbia Business School, Columbia University, Cranfield University, Nigeria Institute of Marketing and Chartered Institute of Marketing, London.
