Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Ademoye, Tobi Bakre, Others Shine At AMVCA 2023

The grand finale of the ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, was held on Saturday at the prestigious Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

The three-day festival kicked off on Thursday, May 19, with a series of events consisting of cultural day and opening night, fashion runway show, and digital content creators day.

The grand finale was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and Miss Universe 2019, South African Zozi Tunzi.

The biggest winners of the night were Tobi Bakre and Osas Ighodaro as they emerged as Best Actor and Actress in a Drama respectively.

The category for Best Actor in a Drama at AMVCA’s 2023 featured an array of talented nominees, including Blossom Chukwujekwu for “The Trade,” Chidi Mokeme for “Shanty Town,” Chimezie Imo for “Choke,” Daniel Etim-Effiong for “Kofa,” Femi Adebayo for “King of Thieves (Agesinkole),” NKakalukanyi Patriq for “Tembele,” O.C. Ukeje for “Black Mail,” Richard Mofe Damijo for “Four Four Forty-Four,” Tobi Bakre for “Brotherhood,” and Tope Tedela for “All The Colours Of The World Are Between Black and White.”

Also, Nollywood actress, Bimbo Ademoye, won Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in the hit series “Selina”. Ademoye’s exceptional performance in the comic series saw her beating the likes of Albert Oluwatoyin for “Visa On Arrival,” Roselyn Ngissah for “Red Carpet,” Funke Akindele for “Battle On Buka Street,” Grace Wacuka for “Married to Work,” and Mercy Johnson for both “Battle On Buka Street” and “Passport,” to emerge winner of the category.

Nigerian Teen actress, model and influencer, Angel Onyi Unigwe won the Trailblazer award. Unigwe was introduced to the movie industry by her mum. She started as a child actor making her debut in 2015 after taking up roles in ‘Alison’s Stand,’ a popular Nigerian television series; and since then she has continued to warm the hearts of film audiences’.

To climax the event, Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 film, Anikulapo won the Overall Best Movie.
